Coach Schubarth

by Matt Schubarth

I have been looking for a straight answer on icing pitcher and catchers arms along with catchers knees. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? I've seen answers both ways and both of them seem to have their pros and cons. Can anyone help?

Icing Arms and other body parts after game
by: Coach Dan

Coach,

Thank you for your question. I am not an MD, bit I will base my answer on what my chiropractor has told me. In addition, the trainers that I knew both in college and at my daughters' high school confirmed this as the way to go. After a game, the muscles will be "inflamed". As a result, the best way to cool down is with ice. I would ice down the pitcher's shoulders. So, ice is the proper way to go for after game programs.

Hope this helps,

Dan

I purchased a Pro Ice Pitchers Arm/Elbow on Ebay. It was the best purchase I have ever made. they make a whole line of icing products.
