Softball Ball: Game Balls

The softball ball comes in two sizes and two colors. Depending what age group you are coaching will determine size. For 10 and leagues, most use the 11" ball as that gives the pitcher an opportunity to grip the ball. Also check to see if the league uses the regular softball or the "softee"/"Incrediball" version as this provides some added protection to the players. For all other age groups, the regulation size ball is the 12" ball. Most teams/leagues/tournaments use the yellow ball. Generally, tournaments supply the balls. In the case of league play of when you scrimmage other teams, you will need to provide the ball. Finally, most pitchers prefer the raised seam balls as this provides better grip for them to deliver the variety of pitches they throw.
