Leading by example. I try to break the fundamental skills needed to be successful down into drills that will show the players how important it is to develop the skills. Building blocks for each skill. Make it fun but also know the importance of working hard.

Hi Sue,

Thank you for your post. All great points! Players know the difference between coaches who know what they are doing and those who think they do. Being consistent and calm while teaching the game will gain the player's trust. Keeping the players interested is extremely important and this means making it fun. As you point out, however, fun and hard work go hand in hand. You want the fundamentals to be second nature and that means working hard at the basics.
