Is it too late to start playing softball and join a team at age 16?

by Sam

I'm just wondering. I really want to play softball but I have never tried it before. I'm currently 15 and will be turning 16 in a few months. I have read all the basic rules and terminologies of softball. It's quite hard to understand because apparently I have never played softball. But I really want to try it and become a permanent sport for me to play. Like I'm gonna be able to be in competitions. But I'm not quite sure if I'm gonna be able to join a team if they know I'm just new in softball.

There are different levels of softball for all ages. If you want to start playing now, you may want to consider joining a local recreation league. I understand that you would like to be in competitions, by that I assume you mean tournaments. There are also different levels of travel ball as well. Usually, a "C" level team will have players that are very athletic, but still learning the game of softball.

Also, you mentioned you have been dong a lot of reading on the game. That is a very good start. Another thing you may consider is to go to a local batting cage. The will usually have pitching and fielding lessons, particularly over the winter if you live in a northern climate, where they will have classes. This may be a good start to get practical experience. Reading is great, but it cannot replace real experience.

So, go for it, and I wish you the best in your pursuit!
