Thank you for your question. I have only been associated with leagues that permit rubber cleats. No metal allowed. This was for safety reasons. If you are deciding between metal or rubber, what does your league permit? It could make the whole question moot.
One thing you should look out for, since we are talking about a pitcher's cleat, is the reinforced toe. Because of the foot dragging due to the windmill motion, the toe on a cleat takes a beating and wears out quickly. Make sure it comes with the reinforced pitcher's toe. My daughter had this and it does not affect running or other performance as it is just another layer on the toe.
If you were to ask me brand, the shoe that seems most popular is Ringor (I believe this is about all they do ... and quite well at that). They make a very good women's softball cleat.
Hope this helps and good luck to you and your daughter this season.

Cleated to Death by: Paul
I since found that our league doesn't allow metal cleats. Tournaments are 50/50. For Safety reasons, we will stick with a molded cleat. Here in the midwest I've found no stores that carry Ringor Cleats or even a good selection. I appreciate your advice. We may order cleats online.

Ringor by: Dan
Yep, you are not going to find them in stores. You can only get them direct from Ringor either online or by calling them. By the way, if you contact them and say you want to get them fo ryour team, they will provide you a discount and also usually provide extras like coaches' shoes, etc.
